Self drive from Cairns via the Gillies Highway, Port Douglas via the Rex Highway or Innisfail via the Palmerston Highway. Rental cars available at all major centres and Cairns Airport.
Things To Do
The Cairns Highlands is celebrated for its breathtaking natural beauty and abundant wildlife. Beautiful rainforests, crater lakes and waterfalls characterise the area, and nocturnal wildlife tours and bird watching are popular activities.
Local food producers are a highlight, including boutique dairies, chocolatiers, coffee growers and roadside fruit and veg stalls. There are a number of unique restaurants and cafes, often accompanying significant attractions or local art galleries.
Other activities include hot air ballooning, a trip to the accessible outback at Undara Lava Tubes, water sports on one of our freshwater lakes or bushwalking one of the many rainforest walking tracks.
